A Corner of the Potter’s Yard
Beautiful Borders, BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2026

Inspired by the designers’ family pottery, now long closed, this garden recreates a corner of the potter’s yard, brought back to life after years of abandonment.
Evoking hot, summer days in the pottery’s farm courtyard, acid green and yellow drought tolerant plants are offset with fine textured bronzes, and emerge through locally sourced, free draining aggregate and broken pots to reflect the pottery’s origins.
A tiered stand of rusting, recycled steel takes centre stage as a tribute to the pottery’s earliest showstand, and highlights the diversity of the original hand-made pots. Now magically full and flourishing, they overflow with rich-coloured perennials, grasses and edibles, a nod to the pottery’s agrarian roots, and show a more sustainable, ecological and nourishing type of pot planting.
Through the regeneration of ageing and forgotten objects, the border brings new life to the memory of the pottery.
